Issues to deal with when you migrate from Standard Environment to Cloud Computing

5th Oct 2016

Moving data and applications from in-house servers is not an easy task for most organizations to undertake. The result may be more problematic than many would think, because of different platform, infrastructure and application requirements.

Developing a strategy to get data to the Cloud is not the only issue. Some Cloud vendors are in a proprietary technology platform, so plans have to include the possibility of migrating again in the future.

Many companies who have embraced Cloud Computing so far have experienced the problem known as lock-in. Lock-in is where data-loss occurs due to migration of data from one proprietary system to another one. No one can guarantee a company that they will not experience lock-in, and this increases the inherent risk of a Cloud migration.

So why do companies move data to another platform? There may be uptime issues, bandwidth issues or limited storage. Whatever the reason, companies need to be prepared for the possibility of moving data. For many IT professionals and CIOs this is not an ideal situation. What happens if data is lost? How will security be maintained?
