What makes a self-assessment credible?

A self-assessment is credible when each answer is anchored to evidence rather than opinion, the scoring scale is defined before scoring begins, the same questions are re-asked on a fixed cycle so drift is visible, and the results are reviewed by someone who did not perform the work. Without those four, the score measures optimism.

How is benchmarking different from assessment?

An assessment measures your capability against a defined standard or scale. Benchmarking compares that result against a peer group or an industry reference, which tells you whether a given score is good in your context. An assessment tells you where you are; benchmarking tells you whether where you are is a problem.
