Quality management and standards

Which quality management standard applies to your industry?

ISO 9001 is the general quality management system standard. AS9100 adds aerospace and defence requirements on top of ISO 9001, and ISO 13485 does the same for medical devices. ISO 26262 is a different kind of standard: it governs functional safety of automotive electrical and electronic systems rather than the quality management system itself.

Does AS9100 replace ISO 9001?

No. AS9100 contains the full text of ISO 9001 and adds aerospace-specific requirements covering configuration management, product safety, counterfeit part prevention and risk. An organisation certified to AS9100 meets ISO 9001 as part of it, which is why aerospace suppliers are usually audited once against the combined standard rather than twice.
