A Brighter future in Big Data

5th Oct 2016

We are starting to see it everywhere now - Big Data is making an impact on people everywhere.

Large companies, Universities and governments are just a few of the groups that are jumping at the chance to put it to good use. In fact, one of the world's leading research firms, Gartner, has recently announced that 4.4 million new jobs will be created by 2015 (globally) by the 'Big Data' due to growing demand. They even go on to state that they only think around 1/3 of them will be filled as well.

So, what does this mean for you? For anyone that's currently in or entering a university program with a focus on computer tech or IT, this should be a clear signal to act.In fact, universities are actually moving to meet this demand (or growing problem) by creating new courses and programs which are aimed at people entering future careers in big data. Many of these programs are actually offered online, which is really convenient of course.Similarly, if you're into the idea of online study, you might want to consider what many people think is an even better alternative - online certification. Simply put, an online certification program in big data is just as effective (if not more so) than any collegiate course. Many people feel that these types of learning platforms are actually superior, largely because they are very detailed, 'to-the-point', and also much cheaper. All points aside, a quality big data certification program (like the one you see in the links above) will provide both the training and qualifications you need to find employment in the field. You might be wondering...
'Why is big data becoming so important'?
It's been said time and time again, we live in a global society that thrives on data. The truth is, data is being collected (and analyzed) at a very fast pace.Arguably, it could even be said that the IT world is having trouble keeping up with the intense pace of data accumulation. What's the root cause of this data flood?Big data seems to have really become an issue after the emergence of two different things:1) social media / networking and2) easy access to mobile devices. In other words, people have become more apt to share virtually everything they do online with others via their social networks - which ends up generating quite a lot of additional data and statistics in the process.Likewise, because nearly everyone has a internet-capable mobile device these days (some have two or three) we all connect to the internet more frequently. So, put those two things together and you get: more information stored and shared at ever-growing, faster rates. All of these realities are made even stronger by virtue of the fact that both social media and mobile device usage are on an upward slope. The simple truth is that people have been buying more mobile and tablet-like devices in recent years and this trend shows absolutely no signs of slowing down.Similarly, social media use is as strong as ever and doesn't seem to be losing ground with the world's population either. Both of these factors add up to one exciting notion for those who are open enough to hear the message, which is - big data has a bright future ahead of it.For anyone that's considering a career in IT, Big Data certification comes highly recommended. To tell you the truth, you'll probably need some experience in it anyway. Most employers who are looking to hire IT personnel are opening their eyes to the need to have trained individuals who can work with big data on hand. You might be physically collecting data, analyzing it, or even simply helping to run a 3rd party Big Data 'service'.Whatever the duty may be, the fact remains that your future boss or interviewer is going to ask you questions about big data. The question is, will you be able to give them an answer in return?
